Olafur Eliasson
“When approached by Politikens Forlag to design a monograph on the acclaimed artist Olafur Eliasson, I envisioned a distinct conceptual identity that would reflect his sensoric and immersive approach to art. The design features an oversized dust jacket with a unique horizontal French fold, perfectly aligned with the book’s format, allowing readers to unfold it and reveal Eliasson’s masterwork, Beauty – a choice that embodies the immersive experience his work is known for.”

The dust jacket is printed on pearlescent paper, with the title highlighted in fluorescent orange – an element that extends to the endpapers, headings, and page numbers, and also adorns the black debossed hardcover. This vibrant pigment not only strengthens and enhances the book’s visual identity but also references Eliasson’s profound exploration of light, perception, and scientific phenomena.

Inside, the monograph includes a series of insightful essays on Eliasson’s work, accompanied by an extensive collection of photographs curated in collaboration with the artist and his studio.

To translate Eliasson’s dynamic, experiential works into print, the book uses long image sequences that illustrate the evolution and depth of his installations. While no printed medium can fully replicate the experience of witnessing his art firsthand, the layout invites readers to engage with Eliasson’s world, offering a glimpse into the immersive quality of his creations.
