Truman Capote – Summer Crossing
“For the cover design of Truman Capote’s rediscovered first novel, Summer Crossing (written in 1943, published in 2005), I chose a photograph by legendary fashion photographer Clifford Coffin, found during the design process. The image evokes a nostalgic mood that aligns with the novel’s story of a young debutante’s summer romance in pre-war New York and echoes Capote’s narrative themes.”

“The dust jacket combines high-gloss varnish and a silver foil title (the Danish title Summercruise), concealing a black uncoated hardcover with the title debossed in silver foil and breezy blue-toned endpapers. Inside, the layout follows the clean, typographic identity I created for the publisher’s fiction series, designed to enhance readability and narrative flow.”

“Summer Crossing is one of many covers I designed for Politikens Forlag as the more than 75-year-old publishing house expanded into fiction, complementing its existing non-fiction and handbook catalog in 2005. In addition to designing the first season of covers, I also established the visual identity and led the design direction for the entire fiction collection.”
